Year In Context

Almina, Daughter of Asher Wertheimer is the last of a series of family portraits done for the  Wertheimer family portraits.

June: he gives a major exhibition of his watercolors -- forty-eight watercolors and two oils at the Carfax Gallery in London, England. Both the critics and the public love it (none of the painting were offered for sale). During the show Sargent is in Majorca, Spain.

He is elected full member in the Royal Watercolour Society. His diploma painting is Bed of a Glacir Torrent (n/a).

July: he’s back in London.

John's is often accompanied by his family (sisters and nieces) and friends who travel with him.

August: he's off to Breuil, below the Matterhorn, near Valtourneche, with Dorothy Palmer, Polly Barnard and the two Harrison brothers.

September: he’s with his sister Emily and travels to Avignon to meet Eliza  Wedgwood, then to Barcelona and Majorca, Spain. Mosquito Nets with his sister Emily and her friend Miss Wedgwood are painted in Majorca.

He paints The Black Brook which is his neice Rose-Marie Ormond.

He paints Cashmere, a painting of John's niece, Reine Violet, in an exotic cashmere shawl in seven different poses, Reine Violet would have been about 11 years old.

Reclining Figure is probably Rose-Marie Ormond, or Reine Violet Ormond.
