The view is looking north down the Piazzetta with the corner of the Libreria  on the left and the dome of the Basilica San Marco  in the distance. The column in the middle would be St Theodor on his crocodile.

In July, 1902, the campanile (the tower that had always been behind the Libreria) collapsed changing the visual landscape of the Piazzetta. Spanierman Gallery does not date the painting, but it is possibly shortly after the collapse.
