From Sothebys
Rosie Marie-Louise Derenburg (8 years old here) was the daughter of Ilona Eibenschütz, a well-known Hungarian pianist and friend of Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms. At the age of five or six, Eibenschütz (the mother) reportedly played a duet with Franz Liszt, today considered one of the greatest pianists that ever lived. In 1902, Eibenschütz married Carl Derenburg and retired from the stage. She spent the rest of her life in London, where this portrait was created of her daughter.
