Eiffel Tower
John's reference to the Eiffel Tower
in January is interesting in that the tower was nearing completion
(completed in March of that year) for the Paris Exposition Universal of
1889. It was most certainly on the minds of the public -- Sargent
was probably excited about seeing it on his trip. In the top of the tower
Gustave Eiffel kept a studio
